Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - Amid snowflakes and swirling winds at Parkview Field Friday night, the Fort Wayne TinCaps saw to it that the outcome was worth the effort. Every starter in the TinCaps lineup picked up at least one hit, as Fort Wayne defeated Lansing, 7-3, in the opening game of a three-game set.

Gabriel Quintana and Alberth Martinez each knocked in a pair of runs for Fort Wayne (7-6), which used a four-run sixth inning to overcome a 3-2 deficit. The TinCaps scored first, doing so for the fifth time in 13 games, with two runs in the second inning. Lansing (4-7) reached TinCaps starter Joe Ross for single runs in the third and fifth innings, tying the game at two. The runs given up by Ross, who did not factor in the decision, were his first two earned runs of the season.

The Lugnuts added another run in the sixth against TinCaps reliever Matthew Shepherd (2-0), who provided 2 1/3 innings of relief and earned the win.

Fort Wayne pounced on the Lugnuts' Alonzo Gonzalez (1-1) in the sixth inning, after touching up starter Taylor Cole for two earned runs and six hits in the first four innings. Gonzalez allowed Quintana, Corey Adamson, and Maxx Tissenbaum to all drive home runs in the four-run sixth. That inning landed the TinCaps a 6-3 advantage, which stretched to 7-3 on a Martinez RBI single in the eighth.

The victory snapped a two-game skid for the TinCaps, and gave them their first win since Sunday against Lake County.

Game two of the three-game series is scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. first pitch Saturday evening. The scheduled starters are Max Fried for Fort Wayne and Roberto Osuna for Lansing. The game can be seen on XFINITY Channel 81 and be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
