FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A four-run sixth inning by the Fort Wayne TinCaps (7-6) led to a 7-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (4-7) on Friday night at Parkview Field.

The TinCaps piled up 15 hits in the game, 14 singles, but lost a 2-0 lead to Lansing after the visitors tallied solo runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings

The bottom of the sixth, however, turned the game in Fort Wayne's balance.

Alberth Martinez led the inning off with a single for the TinCaps, Stephen Carmon followed by getting hit by a pitch, and then Mallex Smith bunted himself on to load the bases. A fielder's choice allowed Fort Wayne to come even with the Lugnuts, 3-3.

Three batters later, Gabriel Quintana delivered a tie-breaking two-run single to push the TinCaps back ahead for good. Corey Adamson capped the rally with a two-out RBI single.

All four of the Fort Wayne runs came against Lansing reliever Alonzo Gonzalez (Loss, 1-1), who started the inning in relief of Lugnuts starter Taylor Cole, but managed to record only two outs, allowing four runs on four hits while walking two and striking out one.

The Caps finished off the scoring with a final insurance run in the eighth inning, thanks to another single from Martinez, scoring Quintana.

TinCaps reliever Matthew Shepherd (Win, 2-0) worked 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Joe Ross to pick up the victory.

All nine Fort Wayne starters hit safely, led by a 3-for-5 performance from Quintana. In the losing effort for Lansing, center fielder Pompey went 1-for-2 with an RBI single and two walks.

Fort Wayne was first to get on the board in the home half of the second, jumping ahead, 2-0. After back-to-back base hits, a pair of errors on one play allowed the TinCaps to plate two. With runners on second and third, a grounder to short from Martinez scored Luis Tejada, and then Emilio Guerrero's throw skipped away from Balbino Fuenmayor, who threw wildly to home plate, allowing Corey Adamson to score from second.

The Lugs cut the lead in half in the top of the third inning. Guerrero drew a leadoff walk, stole second base, moved to third on a groundout and then scored on Dalton Pompey's RBI single, getting Lansing to within 2-1.

Lansing tied the game in the top of the fifth after Chris Hawkins hit a towering triple off the top of the right field wall and then scored after an error from the shortstop Carmon.

The next inning, the Lugnuts took their first and only lead of the game. Kellen Sweeney doubled and was brought home by Santiago Nessy's RBI single, putting Lansing on top, 3-2.

The two sides meet again on Saturday night in the middle game of the three-game series. The Lugs will send right-hander Roberto Osuna (1-1, 1.86) to the mound against touted TinCaps southpaw Max Fried (1-0, 1.00), with first pitch slated for 5:05 p.m.
