Lake County Fielders News Release
ZION, Ill.-The Lake County Fielders (34-47) were shutout by the Joliet JackHammers (41-40) 3-0 on Tuesday night in Zion.
Ryan Bicondoa (2-8) pitched his fifth complete game of the season, allowing only three runs, two earned, on eight hits. He did not walk any batters and struck out a season high nine Joliet hitters.
The JackHammers scored twice in the top of the fourth. After Bicondoa faced the minimum number of batters through the first three innings, Jonathan Wyatt knocked a lead-off single. Josh Flores then reached on an error by Bicondoa. Flores bunted the ball back to the mound. Bicondoa threw wide to second base, and both runners were safe.
The red-hot Brad Correll came through with a bloop single to shallow right field, scoring Wyatt. The next hitter, Jon Nelson drove a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Flores and making the game 2-0.
That would be all Todd Privett (8-4) needed as he threw seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out seven.
The Fielders had a couple base runners in scoring position late as Brian McFall doubled in the seventh and Guillermo Martinez tripled in the eighth, but the Fielders could not push a run across.
The Fielders go for the series split on Wednesday night against Joliet. Alec Lewis will pitch for Lake County against Rory Shortell at 7:00pm in Zion.
