Lake County Fielders News Release
ZION, Ill. - The Lake County Fielders (35-39) got their bats going in the final game of the series against Joliet to defeat the JackHammers (41-41) 6-4 on Wednesday night. The Fielders strung together 13 hits, two less than the Fielders had put together in all three previous games against Joliet.
Brad Correll struck with the big blow of the game delivering a three run homer to put the JackHammers up 4-0 in the top of third after the JackHammers plated one run in the first off a Freddie Thon RBI single.
The Fielders took advantage of two JackHammers miscues in the Fielders' half of the third. After consecutive singles from Guillermo Martinez and Juan Valdes, Josh Short came up with an RBI single scoring Martinez. Centerfielder Chris Colton attempted to throw out Martinez at home, but overthrew advancing Valdes and Short. Valdes was brought around when Brian McFall hit a routine ball that was bobbled by shortstop Kevin Rios, cutting the JackHammers lead in half.
The Fielders took the lead in the fourth. Martinez loaded the bases on a single with no outs and Valdes brought Esquer, who had singled earlier in the inning, around to score on a sacrifice fly. Josh Short drew a walk to load the bases for the second time in the inning and Brian McFall ripped a two-run RBI double to put the Fielders up by one.
Lake County added an insurance run in the eighth of an RBI single from Adam Hale scoring Amos Ramon.
Marco Gonzalez came in in the ninth to earn his third save of the season. After giving up consecutive singles, Gonzalez retired three in a row for the Fielders' win. Alec Lewis pitched well in his first win of the season, going five innings giving up seven hits, four runs (three earned) and striking out four.
The Fielders start a four-game home series with Schaumburg tomorrow. Fielders will send their newest acquire LHP Roberto Feliciano to the mound.
