Lake County Fielders News Release

ZION, IL-The Lake County Fielders dropped the final game of the four game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 10-6 on Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Family Day at Fielders' Stadium in Zion.

The Goldeyes jumped on the board early again, putting up a three-run first inning. With one out, Fielders' starting pitcher John Brownell (2-6) gave up a single and a walk to Price Kendall and Wes Long, respectively.

That was then followed by an RBI single from Juan Diaz, an RBI double from Kevin West and another RBI single from Justin Justice, before Brownell induced Luis Alen to hit into an inning-ending double play.

The Goldeyes put up another crooked number in the top half of the fourth inning. Winnipeg scored seven on RBI base hits from Eggleston and Kendall. Then Juan Diaz hit a big three-run home run to really blow the game open and end Brownell's day. The Goldeyes tacked on one more before the Fielders could get out of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Alen.

The Fielders, however, did not give up. They hung around with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to put the pressure on Winnipeg.

Brian McFall opened up the Fielders' scoring with a two-run home run over the scoreboard in left.

With one out in the seventh, Kyle Higgins and Anthony Esquer hit back-to-back singles. Guillermo Martinez crushed a double down the left field line to score Higgins. Juan Valdes followed that up with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Esquer and chasing Winnipeg starter James Mackintosh (1-2).

With Chad Benefield pitching, Amos Ramon reached on a throwing error by Winnipeg second baseman Price Kendall, allowing Martinez to score making it 10-5, but that was all the Fielders would get in the inning, as they stranded Ramon and Joshua Short.

Alec Lewis pitched well in relief of Brownell to keep the Fielders in it, going 4.2 innings and allowing zero runs on four hits and striking out three while walking none.

The Fielders are next in action on Monday night at 6:00 pm in Zion with a doubleheader against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
