
Jonathan Wyatt and Willie Glen Named Northern League Player and Pitcher of the Month for July

Joliet JackHammers outfielder Jonathan Wyatt has been named Rawlings Northern League Player of the Month for July, and pitcher Willie Glen of the Gary SouthShore RailCats has been selected the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month for July.
Wyatt, who currently leads the Northern League with a .347 average, collected a league- high 45 hits in the month of July. He batted .402 (45-for-112) with 12 doubles, a triple, and six home runs, while posting 22 runs scored and 22 RBI in the month. He collected at least one hit in 22 of 25 games and three hits in seven different games. He previously was named the NL Player of the Week for the period ending July 11th when he batted .429 with five doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI. From July 1st to July 18th , he strung together a 13-game hitting streak.
The 5-10, 180-pound left-fielder was acquired by the JackHammers on February 16th , 2010 as a free agent after playing the previous three seasons in the Chicago Cubs farm system. He was originally drafted by Cubs in the 13th round of the 2007 amateur draft and spent parts of three seasons playing in Boise, Peoria (Midwest League), and Daytona (Florida State League). Collegiately, he was a standout player for the University of Georgia (Athens, GA).
Players also receiving Player of the Month votes were Jim Fasano of the Kansas City T-Bones and Jon Nelson of the Joliet JackHammers.
Willie Glen, who leads the Northern League with 77 strikeouts, posted a 3-0 record with a 1.69 ERA for the Gary SouthShore RailCats in the month of July. He appeared in seven games for the RailCats and also threw a perfect inning for the Northern League in the All-Star Game on July 14th versus the Golden League. Overall, he has not allowed an earned run in seven of his last 10 appearances.
In July, the former 2007 Northern League Pitcher of the Year struck out 40 batters over 42.2 innings. On the season, he has posted six consecutive victories while ranking third in ERA (2.70) and tied for fifth in wins (7).
The 6-1, 185-pound right-hander, re-signed with Gary on February 20th , 2010. The native of Indianapolis, IN was originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent in 2001 after a standout career at the University of Evansville. Now playing in his tenth season of professional baseball, he has played with five different Major League organizations (Blue Jays, Phillies, Devil Rays, White Sox, and Marlins). Glen has twice already been honored as the NL Pitcher of the Week honor in 2010 (June 28th and July 26th ).
Other pitchers receiving consideration for Pitcher of the Month were Ace Walker of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Andy Shipman of the RailCats.
