ZION, Ill. The Lake County Fielders (27-36) rallied back from a Winnipeg four-run first inning to defeat the Goldeyes (33-35) in front of 5,267 fans at Fielders' stadium.

Winnipeg jumped on Fielders starter Zach Ward (5-5) early in the first scoring four runs off four hits. Aharon Eggleston reached first on an error by Fielders short stop Guillermo Martinez. Price Kendall then singled and Wes Long walked to load the bases. Back-to-back RBI singles from Juan Diaz and Kevin West scored Eggleston and Kendall. Justin Justice then picked up and RBI groundout and Vince Harrison ripped an RBI double to score Diaz.

Ward settled in after the first inning, going the distance giving up only five more hits over the next eight frames. Ward picked up his fifth win of the season, throwing nine innings, giving up nine hits, four runs (one earned) while striking out seven and walking six. Ward was backed by the Fielders defense who turned five double plays to keep the Goldeyes out of scoring position.

The Fielders put two runs on the board in the third frame off a Josh Short solo home run, his 18th of the year. Jeff Dunbar and Cody Strait reached on consecutive singles and Dunbar was brought around to score on RBI single off the bat of Martinez.

Amos Ramon brought the Fielders within one in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double down the left field line to score Kevin Haas who had reached on a single and stole second. Ramon went four-for-five with two RBI and was a home run short of hitting for the cycle.

The Fielders plated four in the fifth inning to secure the win. Once again, Dunbar and Strait reached on singles and Dunbar scored on an RBI single from Martinez. Haas ripped a double to plate Martinez chasing Ace Walker (5-3) from the game. Winnipeg brought in former Fielders player, Corey Bass to close out the game. Ramon came to the plate with runners on second and third, and hit a two-run RBI single to score both Esquer and Haas.

The Fielders added two more runs in sixth. Strait and Martinez hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to right field to score Brian McFall and Jeff Dunbar. Strait was two-for-four on the night with one RBI and a double. Martinez was two-for-three with three RBI.

The two teams will meet in the series finale tomorrow at 1:00pm in Zion on Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Family Day. The Fielders will send John Brownell (2-5, 5.48) to the mound opposite LHP Antony Bello (2-5, 4.70).
