Joliet JackHammers News Release

JOLIET, IL - Jon Nelson slapped an infield single to score Josh Flores from third in the bottom of the tenth as the Joliet JackHammers (34-30) earned a 4-3 walk off victory Saturday night over the Gary SouthShore RailCats (32-33) Saturday night in front of 4,760 at Silver Cross Field. Joliet will look for the four game split tomorrow afternoon at 2:10 p.m.

The JackHammers began the tenth with a Flores single off the glove of Tanner Townsend at third. Jonathan Wyatt struck out on a 3-2 pitch by Andy Shipman (2-1) and Flores stole second on the play, only to advance to third on the fifth Gary error in the ballgame. Shipman intentionally walked Brad Correll and Nelson hit a high chopper to short that Jay Pecci threw home late as Flores scored the game winning run for the 4-3 win.

The RailCats denied Bear Bay his sixth victory with two runs in the ninth off Griffin Bailey (2-2). Adam Klein drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a Mike Massaro double. Pecci lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Klein to cut the deficit to 3-2. After Cristian Guerrero grounded out, Randall Simon hit a bouncing ball up the middle to tie the game at three.

Bay went the first eight innings, allowing one run on two hits with a season high eight strikeouts. The right-hander had a perfect game broken up in the sixth on a leadoff Louis Ott single.

Joliet spotted Bay with a two run lead, highlighted by a Wyatt solo home run in the third off Willie Glen. The JackHammers added another off Glen in the eighth after Wyatt singled and scored on a Nelson double into the right field corner for a 3-1 lead.

Glen almost matched Bay on the bump, tossing eight frames surrendering three runs (two earned) on eight hits with eight strikeouts.

Gary made it a 2-1 game in the sixth against Bay after Mike Rohde followed up the Ott single with a double to left center to plate the first Gary run.

Nelson and Wyatt each collected three hits with Nelson driving home a game high two runs.

Bailey picked up the victory despite blowing his first save of the season, going two innings allowing two runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.

The JackHammers will look for the split tomorrow afternoon with Ross Stout (5-7) taking the mound. The RailCats have yet to name a starter for the 2:10 p.m. first pitch. Coverage begins with the pre-game show at 2:00 p.m. on the JackHammers Radio Network.
