Fernando Álvarez Called up by Colombia U23 Team

MONTREAL - CF Montréal defender Fernando Álvarez has been selected by Colombia's U23 national team for a training camp in preparation for the CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament, from January 3 to 16.

Colombia's U23 team will then participate in the pre-Olympic tournament in Venezuela from January 20 to February 11.

During the group stage, Colombia will face Ecuador on January 20, Brazil on January 26, Venezuela on January 29 and Bolivia on February 1. The tournament's two finalists will qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The 20-year-old defender's last camp with the U23 national team was in December 2023, his first selection at this level. He played 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Peru U23 on December 9.

Álvarez made his debut for the Colombian U20 national team on September 25, 2022 and took part in the 2023 U20 World Cup, after representing Mexico at the U16 and U18 levels. He has made a total of 15 appearances for Colombia's U20 team.
