Fernandes, Scarlett Named to USL Team of the Week
September 6, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release
ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Two Tampa Bay Rowdies earned a spot on the USL Championship Team of the Week for their standout performances in Week 26 of the 2022 campaign. Leo Fernandes and Jordan Scarlett both nabbed Team of the Week selection following Tampa Bay's 6-1 rout of Las Vegas Lights FC at Al Lang Stadium.
Jordan Scarlett broke open the scoring for the Rowdies in the 24th minute, taking a touch off a pass from Junior Etou before winding up and delivering a low strike through a crowd and into the back of the net. Tampa Bay's center back was sturdy throughout the match as well, completing 39 of 40 passes and winning all of his duels.
This is Scarlett's second Team of the Week selection of the season. He also earned the honor after notching the winning goal in Tampa Bay's 3-1 win at Indy Eleven in Week 21. Now in his third season in Tampa Bay, Scarlett has appeared in 79 matches for the Green & Gold. Earlier this year, Scarlett received his first call up to the Jamaican national team for CONCACAF Nations League action.
For Fernandes, this is his second straight week on Team of the Week and his fourth overall this year. The veteran attacker increased his goal total for the season to a club-leading 15 tallies with a brace against Las Vegas. He also added his 7th assist on the season, threading a perfectly weighted ball into the final third for Lucky Mkosana to finish off in the dying minutes this past Saturday.
The Rowdies remain undefeated on nights when Fernandes scores a goal, posting ten wins and two draws in those matches.
Next up, Tampa Bay hits the road for a two-match road swing starting this Saturday, September 10 at the Charleston Battery. They will follow that up with their first ever trip to Detroit City FC the next Saturday before returning to Al Lang Stadium for Legacy Night versus Birmingham Legion FC on Friday, September 23 at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the Rowdies match versus Birmingham can be purchased here or by calling 727-222-2000.
