Arizona Rattlers News Release

GLENDALE, AZ --- The Arizona Sting announced today that the ceremonial ball drop at Saturday night's game versus the Calgary Roughnecks will be performed by Hall of Fame baseball pitcher Fergie Jenkins.

Jenkins, the Chicago Cubs' all-time strikeouts leader, was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991 after earning 284 wins and amassing a 3.34 earned run average over 19 seasons in the major leagues as a member of the Cubs, Rangers, Red Sox, and Phillies. Jenkins threw an amazing 267 complete games while registering 49 shutouts over the course of his career. A three-time all-star, Jenkins won the National League's Cy Young Award in 1971 and led the N.L. in strikeouts in 1969 with 273. A dynamic athlete, he also played two seasons with the Harlem Globetrotters in the late 1960's.

A native of Chatham, Ontario, Jenkins played lacrosse growing up and was the first Canadian-born player to earn a spot in Cooperstown; he has been a great sporting ambassador and philanthropist since his retirement from baseball in 1983.

Saturday's Sting game is a rematch of the January 27 overtime affair that saw Sting forward Craig Conn score the game-winning goal 90 seconds into the extra frame to give Arizona the 11-10 victory over Calgary. Game time on Saturday is 7:30 PM; doors will open at 6:30 PM.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Currently in their third season of existence, the Sting are the defending NLL West Division Champions. For more information, please call (480) 563-7825 or visit ArizonaSting.com.
