Oklahoma City Comets News Release

The Oklahoma City RedHawks beat the Memphis Redbirds 8-0 Friday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Neftali Feliz pitched six scoreless innings as the RedHawks shut out the Redbirds for the second consecutive game.

Oklahoma City tallied four runs on three hits and two walks in the first inning off of Memphis starter Adam Ottavino. Julio Borbon and Jose Vallejo reached on walks to start the bottom half of the inning. After Esteban German singled to load the bases, a Greg Golson single brought home the first two runs of the game. Casey Benjamin followed with a double to bring home the other two runs.

Steven Murphy led off the second inning with his second home run of the year. Ottavino (0-7) walked Kevin Richardson before getting the first two outs of the inning and walked Esteban German, who proved to be the final batter the Redbirds starter would face. Matt Scherer took over and proceeded to allow back-to-back run scoring singles by Emerson Frostad and Golson that extended the Oklahoma City lead to 7-0. Frostad's hit extended his hitting streak to eight straight games, the second longest run by any RedHawk this season behind a 10 game streak by Borbon during May.

Feliz (3-3) authored four perfect innings before allowing a leadoff single in the fifth to Brett Wallace. Feliz wound up striking out three and walking none over six innings before the Oklahoma City bullpen took over. A.J. Murray, Clayton Hamilton, and Warner Madrigal each pitched a scoreless inning to complete the RedHawks second shutout in as many days. It marked the first time since April 15, 2007 that the RedHawks tossed shutouts on back-to-back nights. That day, the ‘Hawks shutout Memphis 2-0 and 1-0 in a doubleheader at the Brick.

Golson and Benjamin drove in three runs apiece to drive the Oklahoma City offense, as every player reached by walk or base hit to lead the RedHawks o their third straight win, a 5-4 record during the nine game homestand, and their second series win of the year. The Redbirds managed six hits and no walks against Feliz and the bullpen.

Oklahoma City travels to Albuquerque Saturday to open a four-game set against the Isotopes. The RedHawks and Isotopes played a five-game set to open the recent homestand, with Oklahoma City winning the first two and Albuquerque taking the final three. Tommy Hunter will start for the RedHawks against the Isotopes Charlie Haeger.
