FC Tulsa Ready for Rivalry as OKC Energy FC Visits ONEOK Field
September 11, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - The home stretch is here. Five matches, four at home, remain in FC Tulsa's 2020 USL Championship season as it fights for a postseason berth for the first time since 2017. The run-in starts with a rival, OKC Energy FC, in the first Black Gold Derby of the season on Tulsa soil.
While FC Tulsa will have 2020 playoff hopes on the line each time it takes the pitch for the rest of the season, OKC is playing for state pride. Energy FC trail Tulsa by seven points and haven't won a match since July 17, a winless streak consisting of eight matches and nearing two months. Meanwhile, FC Tulsa is on a three-match unbeaten run and won its last home match, a 2-1 victory over Rio Grande Valley FC.
Kickoff at ONEOK Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Attached are FC Tulsa's match notes and prematch quotes from FC Tulsa head coach Michael Nsien and forward Darî - o Suárez.
ABOUT OKC ENERGY FC
It's been a disappointing season for OKC Energy FC and first year head coach John Pascarella. The team has won just once in 2020 and has been the worst statistical offense in the USL, scoring just seven goals in its 11 matches, the 0.63 goals/match is the lowest in the league. It hasn't gotten better either, as Energy FC have been shutout in six of their seven most recent matches, scoring just once in that stretch.
SERIES HISTORY
OKC has been the better side in the Black Gold Derby overall, but neither team can claim recent success. The last four Black Gold Derbys have ended in 1-1 draws, including the most recent meeting on July 13, the first match following the five-month pandemic hiatus.
