FC Tulsa News Release
TULSA - With a new TV deal signed for the 2020 USL Championship season, FC Tulsa announced its TV broadcast team for all 17 My41 Tulsa home matches. Veteran soccer play-by-play announcer David Saunders will be in the booth at ONEOK Field alongside former Union High School and Oklahoma State University soccer star Anna Beffer.
Saunders, a native of Exeter, England, boasts a soccer announcing career few could dream of. After more than 10 years of experience calling matches for his hometown club Exeter City FC and Torquay United FC for BBC Radio in the English Football League, Saunders moved stateside to Tulsa. He has previously called soccer matches locally for the University of Tulsa, Oral Roberts University and Fortuna Tulsa. Since the inception of Tulsa Roughnecks FC in the USL Championship in 2015, Saunders has been in the booth as the color commentator for online broadcasts, but now steps into his more natural play-by-play role in 2020.
Beffer, one of Tulsa's premier soccer players of all-time, will join Saunders in the booth. After a heralded high-school career at Union High School where she was named the 2014 Gatorade Player of the Year in Oklahoma, Beffer continued her career collegiately at Oklahoma State University. In her four seasons, Beffer was named to the All-Big 12 First Team (2017), All-Region First Team (2017), Academic All-Big 12 First Team (2015, 2016, 2017), led the nation in assists and was named the team MVP as a senior (2017).
Following her career at OSU, Beffer signed professionally with AS Pierrots Vauban in the French Feminine Division, playing one season with the club. Since returning to the U.S., Beffer has begun work as a broadcaster, serving as OSU's color commentator in the 2019 season.
Saunders and Beffer will make their debut in the ONEOK Field booth on Saturday for FC Tulsa's home opener against New Mexico United FC at 7 p.m. Fans in Tulsa not at the match will be able to tune in on My41 Tulsa.
