San Diego, CA - San Diego Loyal Soccer Club (SD Loyal) announced today that its first away match in Tacoma, Wash. will be played in an empty stadium. Following Washington Gov. Jay Inslee's announcement suspending large public gatherings, SD Loyal has been in contact with Tacoma Defiance, United Soccer League, regional government agencies and health authorities, and has determined that it is safe to proceed with the match behind closed doors. SD Loyal will face Defiance at Cheney Stadium as regularly scheduled today at 7 p.m. PT. Fans can watch live on ESPN+.

"We fully support Governor Islee's announcement and will comply with all recommendations from local health authorities as they develop," said Warren Smith, SD Loyal President. "We take our responsibility to San Diego very seriously and will continue to take all appropriate precautions for the safety of our players, staff and community."

The club released an official statement regarding COVID-19 saying, "We are closely monitoring developments in our region on COVID-19, including updates from San Diego County officials and the Center for Disease Control. We encourage our players, staff and fans to practice common sense precautions including: wash your hands, stay home when sick and listen to local health authorities. We are in contact with the University of San Diego and United Soccer League about upcoming matches and will provide new information in real-time as it is available, addressing any potential changes on a match-by-match basis.
