FC Tampa Bay Signs Defender Daniel Scott

FC Tampa Bay today announced that it has signed defender Daniel Scott to a contract for the remainder of the 2011 season, pending USSF approval.

Scott (6-1, 185) recently completed his second season with the Premier Development League's Kitsap Pumas, who are based in Bremerton, Washington. He was named to the Premier Development League's 2011 All-League and All-Western Conference teams and captained his club to the 2011 PDL National Championship. The 25-year old Scott scored an injury time winner at Fresno to advance his side to the PDL national semis, giving Kitsap a 1-0 win.

"We would like to welcome Daniel to our team," said head coach Ricky Hill. "He is a strong player who is a good leader and will add some strength and depth to our defensive unit."

Scott served as team captain for the Seattle Wolves in 2009 and was named to the All-League and All-Western Conference first teams, and he helped the Tacoma Tide finish first in the Northwest Division in 2008. Scott was a West Coast Conference second-team selection and four-year starter at Gonzaga. He also saw action as a member of the Seattle Sounders reserve team in the summer of 2009.

"I am really fortunate and blessed to be given this opportunity," said Scott. "I am excited to be here. It is definitely a step in the right direction and hopefully I can help the team make a run in the playoffs. It has been a great transition for me coming from my season with Kitsap."

Scott hails from Haiku, Maui, Hawaii and is the younger brother of Zach Scott, who plays for Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders.

PRACTICE UPDATES

In other team news, defender JP Rodrigues has returned to the team and will not be making the trip to play this week with Guyana in its World Cup qualifying matches. Rodrigues suffered an abdominal strain in Saturday's win at Ft. Lauderdale and his status is day-to-day.

Midfielder Shane Hill also missed Tuesday's practice and is day-to-day with a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Pascal Millien returned to practice Tuesday after missing Saturday's game because of injury.
