FC Montreal Hosts Wilmington this Wednesday Night
August 30, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal will try to win a fifth straight game this Wednesday night at 7pm when it hosts Wilmington Hammerheads FC at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.
Fans will enter the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex on the Southwest side of the field, starting at 6pm. Tickets cost $5, with $1 going to the Montreal Impact Foundation. Admission is free for season ticket holders on presentation of their membership card.
The Bleu-blanc-noir has won four games since August 10, scoring 14 goals. The most recent win was an emotionally charged 4-3 triumph in Toronto last Sunday. Louis Beland-Goyette, Anthony Jackson-Hamel, Alessandro Riggi and Heikel Jarras put their names on the scoresheet.
Beland-Goyette was also named to the USL Team of the Week following for performances.
The Toronto game was the first of a series of four in 11 days where the team will also face Louisville and Charleston in addition to Wilmington.
"We're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel," said Alessandro Riggi. "All our efforts through the year, whatever the results, are starting to pay off. We see that we get better every day with our efforts. Now, we want to keep winning. The younger players have gained a lot of confidence. Wilmington is a team that plays in a really direct way. We need to recover balls high up the field, because their forwards are tall and big and can cause us problems."
Earlier this season, FC Montreal lost 2-0 at Legion Stadium in Wilmington. Matthew Barnes-Homer and Qudus Lawal scored the goals.
"It's an opposition of styles," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "Our challenge will be to play a quality game. Now, we have positive bearings. We've played well, with positive results. But this is a tough game to deal with because we came back on Sunday night and are already taking on a new game. The challenge is to overcome fatigue and to focus on a tough game."
Wilmington will come to Montreal determined to win, as the team hasn't picked up the three points since July 14, a stretch of nine winless games. The North Carolina team was fighting to be in a good position for the playoffs before this series but now sits in 10th position in the Eastern Conference. Bruno Caldini Perone is the top scorer of the team with six goals.
FC Montreal will play its next game on Saturday, September 3, at 3pm against Louisville City FC at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.
