A Short Turnaround for Arizona United in the Heat of the Playoff Race
August 30, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release
Arizona United Soccer Club has little time to dwell on its 1-0 loss to Real Monarchs SLC last Saturday. The club is back in action this Wednesday, August 27, against LA Galaxy II at Peoria Sports Complex. The match kicks off at 7:30 P.M.
"After a loss like this, it's good to have a game so close after to right the wrongs that we've done," said defender Peter Ramage following Saturday night's loss. "We'll try to right them on Wednesday night against LA Galaxy II. We'll rest up and recover our bodies properly. We'll come out fighting on Wednesday night."
The club has had mixed results in mid-week matches on short turnarounds, going 2-2-1 when they've had to play on the Wednesday following a Saturday match. Arizona United is also in the middle of a tight playoff race in the Western Conference. Sitting on 30 points with an 8-11-6 record, the team is just four points out of the final playoff spot.
"Wednesday's a game we got to come out here and try and win," Ramage said Saturday night. "Then we got to go to San Antonio which is just a tough place to go. ... It's always disappointing after a loss, but we got to pick ourselves up and get ready for the game. It's all I got to say"
Wednesday night's match will finish a busy month for the club following a record-setting seven matches in August. Prior to this month, the club had never played more than six league matches in a single month. Arizona United heads into the match with a 3-3-0 record in August.
Scouting Report: Between May 22 and July 23, LA Galaxy II was unbeatable. Literally. The club had a nine-match unbeaten streak (5-0-4) in that stretch and looked like it would run away with the top spot in the Western Conference. Since then the team has gone a dismal 0-4-1 in their last five and was shutout in three of those matches. Los Dos are also coming off a Saturday match and have been on the road since Friday. Heavy, road-weary legs could be a factor in the match.
Previous meeting: It was a match Arizona United SC would soon rather forget. In a first-half flurry of goals, LA Galaxy II took a 3-0 lead into the half and walked away with a 4-1 win at the StubHub Center.
