Louisville City's Abend Named to USL Team of the Week
August 30, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville City FC midfielder Guy Abend made a short appearance count in Saturday's 1-0 win over Bethlehem Steel FC, netting the game's only goal in the 15th minute before injured on the play.
The United Soccer League rewarded the effort Tuesday in naming Abend to its Team of the Week.
Abend headed in an Aodhan Quinn free kick from the left side for his fifth goal of the season, second-most this year for LouCity. While following through, he also collided with an opposing player, suffering a shot to the head.
Paolo DelPiccolo subbed in the central midfield to replace Abend. The native Israeli, in his second season with LouCity, was treated for a concussion and released from a local hospital. His status for Saturday's game at FC Montreal has not been announced.
Abend has now converted on all five of his shots on goal from 12 shots total. Three games back, he recorded his first assist as well, centering a ball in front of the net for Paco Craig to score a late equalizer against the Rochester Rhinos.
