FC Dallas News Release

Dallas, Tex. - FC Dallas President and General Manager Greg Elliott announced today that the Major League Soccer club has signed Ecuadorian forward Roberto Mina to a contract for the 2005 season. After a long negotiation process, Mina was signed from El Nacional of the Ecuadorian Serie A. Mina will be on the 18 man senior roster and will be a Youth International. The team also announced that midfielder Eric Quill has been officially waived.

"While this acquisition was challenging in getting his release and acquiring his proper visa paperwork, it was well worth the wait," said Elliott. "We are glad to have Roberto in Dallas and look forward to his future contributions to our soccer club."

Mina, 20, made his professional debut with Huracan of Argentina during the 2002 season. He spent two seasons with Huracan before going back to Ecuador to play for Emelec in 2003 and El Nacional in 2004. A regular at every youth level with the Ecuadorian National Team, Mina has six appearances with the first team. He arrived in Dallas on Saturday night, April 23, and watched his new teammates defeat Real Salt Lake by a 3-0 final at the Cotton Bowl. He scored a goal in the fourth minute during a friendly at SMU on April 25.

"Roberto is an offensive-minded player, who is unafraid to take on opponents and has the capability of creating dangerous chances on the attacking midfield," said Clarke. "His quickness and fast transitional play make him an ideal fit here and we look forward to what he brings to FC Dallas this season."
