FC Dallas News Release

FRISCO, Texas (Jan. 31, 2011) - FC Dallas players report to Pizza Hut Park for physicals today, officially kicking off the defending Western Conference Champions' 2011 quest for a return to MLS Cup.

The team will train twice each day beginning Tues., Feb. 1 with a morning session from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by an evening session from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Dallas side welcomes back the 2010 Major League Soccer Volkswagen MVP David Ferreira, as well as team captain Daniel Hernandez and goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. There are 22 players returning from the 2010 squad, including MLS All-Star Heath Pearce, as well as Brek Shea, Eric Alexander and Zach Loyd, as the trio just completed their first January camp with the U.S. Men's National Team.

FC Dallas has a few injuries to contend with at the beginning of camp, with Hernandez recovering from off-season knee surgery. George John had a bone spur removed from his left ankle in December, but should be close to 100 percent. Kyle Davies had a microfracture procedure on his left ankle Jan. 10 to repair a bone defect and is expected to be out at least three months. Defender Ugo Ihemelu is scheduled to have surgery this week to repair a sports hernia and is expected to miss the next four to six weeks of training.

As the reigning Western Conference Champions, FC Dallas earned its first trip to the MLS Cup in 2010 following a record-setting year that saw the club set MLS marks for its 19-game unbeaten streak and its 12-game road unbeaten streak. The Dallas side also tied the MLS mark for fewest losses in an MLS season with four, while the Dallas defense allowed the fewest goals against in club history with only 28 through 30 games. FC Dallas opens the 2011 campaign on its home field at Pizza Hut Park on March 19 against Brimstone Cup rival Chicago Fire.
