FRISCO, Texas (Monday, March 29, 2010) - The FC Dallas Juniors will travel to the Netherlands Wednesday, March 31, as one of eight teams from around the world invited to the prestigious AEGON Future Cup slated for April 3-5 at AFC Ajax in Amsterdam.
FC Dallas is the only North American team competing in the prestigious tournament, joined by squads from AFC AJAX (Netherlands), FC Barcelona (Spain), Liverpool FC (England), China U-17 (China), FC Bayern Munich (Germany), AC Milan (Italy) and RSC Anderlecht (Belgium).
Ajax invited an MLS club to represent the United States in its elite tournament field, and MLS chose FC Dallas based on their exceptional performance in the US Soccer Development Academy and current position in first place within their division.
"We are honored to have been invited to participate in the Aegon Future Cup this year," said Chris Hayden, FC Dallas Youth Director of Coaching. "MLS decided to extend the opportunity to FC Dallas based on the quality of our team and the style of play that we bring to the field. This tournament will expose our young players to high level competition on an international stage and will provide our team a tremendous developmental experience."
The FC Dallas Juniors will open group play against Belgium squad RSC Andelecht on Saturday, April 3. The following day, they will finish up against group opponents when they face AC Milan and FC Bayern Munich.
