VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Saturday, April 21) - Vancouver's Camilo netted a goal in the 11th minute and goalkeeper Joe Cannon turned away five shots as the Whitecaps took a 1-0 decision against Dallas Saturday night at B.C. Place.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC held a 60-40 advantage in possession through the 11th minute, when Camilo gave his team a one-goal lead. After receiving a pass from Lee Young-Pyo on the right flank, Camilo cut inside one defender, beat a second to the middle of the area and picked out the far side netting behind goalkeeper Chris Seitz to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead.

FC Dallas battled back, controlling the ball for long stretches of the first half and outshooting Vancouver six to three by the end of the half. Dallas had a great opportunity to equalize in the 38th minute when Zach Loyd picked out Blas Perez with a throw-in deep in Vancouver's defensive third of the pitch. Perez turned with the ball and found Bruno Guarda open at the top of the area, but the Brazilian's first-touch strike was directly at goalkeeper Joe Cannon. The veteran goalkeeper knocked the shot down and covered the rebound to preserve the lead.

Dallas' had a second opportunity to score in the 40th minute, when left midfielder Brek Shea earned a free kick for his team on the flank. Daniel Hernandez took the free kick, lobbing a ball to the center of the area for Ugo Ihemelu. The defender knocked a short pass inside to Perez, who left the ball for Shea to hit, but the attempt flew just high of the crossbar.

Midfielder Fabian Castillo created an opening for FC Dallas in the 62nd minute. The young Colombian got the ball on the flank, dribbled at four defenders and slipped a pass inside to Guarda. Guarda turned with the ball and quickly put Shea in on goal on the opposite side of the box. Running at Cannon, Shea hit a hard strike low to the near post, but once again the veteran goalkeeper was in perfect position to make a save.

Vancouver countered in the 72nd minute when Young-Pyo earned the Whitecaps a free kick from just outside the left side of the box. Young-Pyo took the free kick, hitting a low centering pass to Camilo. Camilo's shot nearly found the back of the net again. He just missed picking out the near post with his first-time strike.

Two minutes later, FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz made an outstanding save to keep his team in the match. A long pass over the top of the FC Dallas defense put Vancouver forward Matt Watson in on goal. Rather than taking a shot, Watson opted to center a pass for Camilo. The Brazilian's first-touch shot was well struck, but Seitz came off his line to knock the attempt away from danger.

Dallas pressed to find a late equalizer, brining on the attacking-minded Scott Sealy for the first time this season in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately for Dallas, the defense held for Vancouver, who improved to 3-2-2 on the season. FC Dallas (3-3-1) will look to rebound this Wednesday, April 25 against Real Salt Lake at FC Dallas Stadium. That match is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT.
