FC Dallas Acquires Allocations From Kansas City In Exchange for Eddie Johnson

February 14, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Dallas News Release

DALLAS - FC Dallas President and General Manager Michael Hitchcock announced today that the club has acquired a pair of allocations from the Kansas City Wizards in exchange for forward Eddie Johnson. In the deal, the Hoops received the Wizards allocation for missing the 2005 MLS Cup Playoffs and the allocation that they received when Preki retired at the end of the season.

"We want to thank Eddie for his five excellent years of service to this organization and wish him all the best as he continues his MLS career with Kansas City, except of course when the Wizards come to play FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park on April 23rd and then again on August 26th in Kansas City" Hitchcock said.

Johnson appeared in 84 games over five seasons for the Hoops, scoring 24 goals and adding five assists. His best season came in 2004 when he tied for the MLS lead with 12 goals. In 2004, Johnson, who will accompany the United States National Team to Pizza Hut Park this weekend for its match against Guatemala on Sunday, scored five goals in 15 matches as he missed a little more than half the season because of injury and National Team duty.

"Eddie has grown into a world class striker during his time at FC Dallas and we know that if selected, he'll represent the U.S. National Team superbly in this summer's World Cup,' Hitchcock added. "Given that, decisions like this are never easy to make, therefore when making them, we ask the question, ‘Does this move improve our chances to win championships now and for years to come,' and as we try to create a team that will compete for MLS Cup year after year, we feel like this is the right decision to make."
