FC Cincinnati News Release
CINCINNATI - FC Cincinnati have signed defender Geoff Cameron. FCC have signed Cameron to a guaranteed contract through the 2022 MLS season with an additional option year.
The defender will occupy a senior roster spot and has been added to FC Cincinnati's 2021 MLS roster.
"We have prioritized adding to our current backline and we welcome the opportunity to add Geoff Cameron to our team," General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said. "He has been a consistent contributor in nine seasons in England and we believe he will compete with our current players to earn regular minutes."
Cameron made 35 appearances, including 32 starts, adding two assists across all competitions while wearing the captain's armband for Queens Park Rangers in the recently concluded EFL Championship season.
Cameron, 35, comes to FC Cincinnati following three seasons with QPR. In his career, the 13-year pro has played exclusively in England and MLS, where he has played for Houston Dynamo FC (2008-12), Stoke City FC (2012-19) and Queens Park Rangers (2018-21).
In his career, the defender has made 421 appearances, including 375 starts, scoring 18 goals and adding 27 assists across all competitions.
Following a combined four NCAA seasons with West Virginia (2004-05) and Rhode Island (2006-07), Cameron was selected by Houston Dynamo FC in the third round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. Cameron went on to star for the Dynamo, earning 144 appearances, including 123 starts, scoring 14 goals and adding 15 assists in five seasons. In 2011, Cameron and the Dynamo advanced to MLS Cup, where the LA Galaxy defeated Houston, 1-0.
Halfway through the 2012 MLS regular season, the Attleboro, Mass., native moved to England where he joined Premier League side Stoke City FC. In six seasons with The Potters, Cameron made 186 appearances, including 166 starts, scoring two goals and adding eight assists.
Ahead of the 2018-19 season, Cameron joined Championship side Queens Park Rangers on loan, eventually making the move permanent following the conclusion of the season. In three seasons with QPR, Cameron made 91 appearances, including 86 starts, scoring two goals and adding four assists.
Internationally, Cameron has made 55 appearances for the U.S. Men's National Team dating back to 2010. Cameron made his international debut for the USMNT in an international friendly against El Salvador on Feb. 24, 2010. He tallied his first international goal in an international friendly against Belgium on May 29, 2013. The defender made three appearances, including two starts, for the USMNT at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
FC Cincinnati are set to officially open their 2021 home slate this Sunday, May 16, when the team hosts Inter Miami CF in the inaugural match at TQL Stadium in a 4 p.m. contest. The match will be televised nationally on FOX and FOX Deportes and streamed on the FOX Sports app.
