Fayetteville Erases Deficit to Stun Knoxville, 5-4

The Fayetteville FireAntz climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Knoxville Ice Bears, 5-4.

Fayetteville let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The FireAntz took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Corey Tamblyn at 26 seconds in the first period. Fayetteville went down 4-2 after Knoxville's Tyler Klein put the puck home at 15:19 in the second period. After knotting things up at 4-4 on a goal by Corey Toy at 10:14 in the third, the FireAntz got the game-winner from Bobby Reed at 18:24 in the third period.

Fayetteville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Knoxville power plays. The FireAntz were below their usual level of shot production, taking 16 shots compared to the 20.5 Fayetteville averages. The FireAntz found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Fayetteville has scored at the pace of 2.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Fayetteville also got points from Toy, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Nick Craven, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Michael Zannella also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Derek Elliott, who had two and Kyle McNeil, Zach Carriveau, and Yuri Cheremetiev, who each chipped in one.

With 38 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Bears exceeded the 21.3 shots they average per game this year.

Knoxville was led by Vince Perreault, who had one goal and two assists. Perreault scored 14:16 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Knoxville. Peter Neal picked up the assist. Knoxville additionally got points from Neal, who also registered one goal and one assist. Knoxville also got a goal from Ben Souders as well. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Mark Van Vliet, Andrew Dovey, Kevin Christmas, and Francis Drolet, who contributed one each.

Peter Skoggard recorded 34 saves for the FireAntz. Fayetteville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cody Rosen made 11 saves for the Ice Bears on 16 shots. Knoxville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
