Macon Trax News Release

[Macon, Ga.]— Geoff Faulkner won his first “WHA2 Goaltender of the Week” Award for the week of Feb. 16. Faulkner led the Trax to back-to-back victories over the Feb. 20 weekend at Alabama and Orlando.

FaulknerÂ’s best game of the year may have been Saturday, Feb. 21 against the Slammers. In the 4-3 Trax victory the Windsor Locks, Conn. native made 43 saves including 14 in the third period.

One great game was not enough for Faulkner as he had another stellar performance in Orlando Sunday, Feb. 22. Another one goal victory for the Trax, 2-1, was saved by their goalie. The 5’9”, 185 pound backstop, made 27 saves in the game.

It was only the second time this season Faulkner won back-to-back games. Combined statistics for the two games gave Faulkner a 2-0 record, 2.00 goals against average and a .946 save percentage. Faulkner was excited when hearing he won the award.

“It is always nice to be recognized for a great performance.” Faulkner said, “The most important thing is that we keep winning and work our way back into the playoff picture.”

The 2003-04 campaign has seen Faulkner post an 11-10 record with a 3.61 goals against average. This is the second year “Faulks” has played in Macon. Last year he led the Trax to the playoffs with a 20-13-2 record. Trax Head Coach Tommy Stewart knows Faulkner can be a top goaltender in the WHA2.

“I brought Geoff back this year knowing he can be a very solid goalie.” Stewart said. “I have been very pleased with both our goalies the past couple months, now we just have to get some wins to make their efforts stand up even more.”

The Trax return to home ice Sunday, Feb. 29 in the middle of a tough road trip. The Slammers will face the Trax at 3:05 pm at the Macon Centreplex. SundayÂ’s game is the lone home game in a 13 of 14 game road trip.

All fans that hold a Willie Nelson concert ticket can get free parking and tickets for only $3 to the Trax game. Also any person who wears NASCAR gear will receive $2 off their game ticket. If that is not enough the Trax will give a free ticket to anyone named William, Bill, Williams, Wilma, etc. on “Willie Night.” “Willie” will be on hand to drop the puck before the game.
