Farmer's 40 not enough for Vipers

Hidalgo, TX; March 11, 2008-

Despite a season high 40 points from leading scorer Desmon Farmer, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers dropped their first home since February 9th after 117-107 loss to the Colorado 14ers Monday night at Dodge Arena. The loss was the Vipers seventh versus Colorado this season. Monday was the final match-up between the two division foes.

The Vipers were slow to get started, as they did not tally their first field goal until a Trent Strickland lay-up at the 7:15 mark. The Vipers though came back to within four at the end of the first quarter. Rio Grande Valley was within two at halftime at 57-55. The Vipers tied the game for the first time at 57-57. Colorado however, proceeded on a 6-0 run and eventually outscored the Vipers by 13 in the third. Despite tying the game for the second time at 99, Rio Grande Valley never could take the lead in the game as their lost their first game in March. The 14ers out-rebounded the Vipers 22-9 in the second half.

Farmer's 40 points led three Vipers in double figures. Jesse Smith tallied 21 for Rio Grande Valley, and added six rebounds and three blocked shots. Stanley Asumnu scored 15 points off the bench for RGV. Eric Osmundson was unstoppable for Colorado. The former Penn Quaker tied former Viper guard Kenny Taylor's season high for three-pointers with eight as he scored 35 to lead the way for the 14ers. Eddie Gill was stellar for Colorado scoring 21 points and dishing out 15 assists in the win.

Rio Grande Valley will travel to Tulsa on Friday night for their final road match-up versus the 66ers. Tip-off from Expo Square Pavilion is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
