Fans Encouraged to Sit on the Field During Game

August 23, 2006 - American Association (AA)
Pensacola Pelicans News Release

This weekend fans will be part of the action like never before! Because the Pelicans are expecting a record crowd, fans will have the opportunity to sit on the field during the game.

On Saturday, Aug. 26 the Pelicans will hold the first ever "Pack the Track" night at Pelican Park. The left field warning track will be open for fans to grab a spot and sit on the field during the game.

A temporary fence will be placed in front of the spectators on the warning track. If a ball in play enters the field where the fans are seating, the at-bat is ruled a ground-rule double and the batter can only advance to second base. The rules for a homerun will remain the same; a ball must be hit over the regular fence.

The Pelicans play the Shreveport Sports on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. in the last game of the 2006 season. Following the game will be a fireworks show sponsored by Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union, WEAR TV 3 and Cat Country 98.7.

"We want to break two records this Saturday night: the season game average and the single game attendance," said Pelicans general manager Talmadge Nunnari. "It is a great experience for the fans, you can not get any closer to the game than actually sitting on the playing field."

The Pelicans current single game high is 3,326 set on July 4, 2006. In 2005, the Pelicans averaged 1,610 fans per game. Currently, the Pelicans are at 1,620 with four games remaining.

Fans may purchase tickets by calling the Pelicans office at 934-8444 or by ordering online at www.pensacolapelicans.com.
