
'Fan Favorite' Returns to the Ice in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC â The East Coast Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers have announced the signing of Konrad McKay to a contract for the 2002-03 season. McKay assumed the role as fan-favorite following a years filled with offense and team leading 231 penalty minutes.
"Pound for pound, Konrad is the one of the toughest players at any level of professional hockey," said Don MacAdam, Head Coach of Director of Hockey Operations. "As good as Konrad was for us last year, I really think that the best is yet to come. He has great offensive skills that are a big positive influence on our team, not to mention the leadership that he brings to our club."
McKay (5'11", 190 lb. Center) returns to the Checkers after competing in 63 games last season. He spent three games during the season in AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack. During the 63 games in Charlotte, McKay scored 18 goals, added 20 assists, and totaled 231 penalties. McKay's signing makes him the fifth signing for Don MacAdam for the upcoming season. He join Andre Signoretti, Nicholas Bilotto, Kevin Caulfield, and Vince Malts as players that will return to Charlotte after a successful regular season, and a first-round loss (3 games to 2) to Atlantic City in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Checkers, under the new ownership of Carl Scheer and Felix Sabates, open the 2002-03 season at home on Friday, October 11th against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Greenville Grrrowl. Season tickets, mini-plans, and flex plans are available by calling 704-342-4423.
