Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.-The Rockford IceHogs, proud members of the United Hockey League, have agreed to contract terms with defenseman Jeremy Rebek (REH-beck) for the 2002-03 season. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Including Rebek, the IceHogs have nine players under contract for the fast approaching 2002-03 season. Centers Jeff Antonovich and Matt Loen, wingers Steve Dumonski and Oak Hewer, defensemen Alexander Alexeev, Jeff DaCosta and Kenzie Homer, and goaltender Brant Nicklin have also agreed to terms.
Rebek, 26, earned UHL Defenseman of the Years honors after finishing first among league defensemen in goals, power play goals, assists and points in 2000-01. In 68 games with the Missouri River Otters (UHL), the 5-foot-11, 195 pound blueliner amassed 26 goals, including 14 on the power play. Rebek also registered 63 assists and 89 points. Rebek's superb season earned him UHL All-Star First Team Honors as he finished second on his club in assists and points, and ranked ninth overall in UHL scoring.
"He's a superstar in our league," said Scott Bell, the IceHogs head coach and director of hockey operations. "He's got an unbelievable work ethic, and we're excited to have him. He's a special player and a valuable addition to our team both on the ice and in the locker room."
Rebek, a two-time UHL All-Star, also played for the River Otters in 1999-00. The native of Ottawa, Ontario finished second on the club in scoring while delivering 20 goals, 58 assists and 78 points in 69 games. His assist total led the River Otters, and his goal total tied for third best on the team. Rebek led the River Otters with 11 power play goals, and his plus-25 plus/minus rating was tops on the team. Rebek's impressive numbers also ranked high among UHL defensemen, as he finished second in the circuit in assists and scoring and third in goals. His offensive exploits also earned him a brief call-up with the Kansas City Blades (IHL) of the International Hockey League. In six games with the Blades, Rebek produced one assist.
Rebek, a veteran of five professional seasons, collected 14 goals, 33 assists and 47 points in 62 games with the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL) of the East Coast Hockey League last year. His 47 points ranked 11th among all ECHL defensemen. Rebek's six game-winning goals also tied for the Mississippi team lead. The 2001-02 season marked Rebek's second stop in the ECHL. His professional resume also includes stints with the Toledo Storm (ECHL) in 1998-99 and 1997-98.
