Fan-favorite Bevilaqua re-signed by Fever

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Fever point guard Tully Bevilaqua has been re-signed to a multi-year contract, it has been announced by Indiana Fever Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf. The Australian native will begin her ninth season in the WNBA in 2007, and her third with the Fever. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Bevilaqua has joined teammate Tamika Catchings on the WNBA's All-Defense First Team in each of the past two seasons. She won a WNBA title with Seattle in 2004, and has annually been characterized as one of the league's most ferocious defenders and most reliable ballhandlers. She finished second in the WNBA in steals (71) last season, behind Catchings (94). Together, they posted the most steals (165) in a single season by teammates, in WNBA history.

"I am very happy to have Tully back in a Fever uniform. For the past two seasons, she has had an impact on our franchise both on and off the playing floor," said Krauskopf. "She is a veteran leader and a winner. Her fan-friendly personality and fearless style of play has endeared her to this community and the Fever fans."

Bevilaqua has started in 65 of the Fever's 68 regular-season games since she signed with Indiana as a free agent in 2005. With Bevilaqua as its point guard, the Fever has registered back-to-back seasons with identical 21-13 records, the best in franchise history. With Bevilaqua as its floor leader, Indiana has advanced to the WNBA Playoffs in consecutive seasons, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2005.

In eight WNBA seasons, she has averaged 4.2 points, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Annually one of the WNBA's leaders in assists per turnover, and steals per turnover, Bevilaqua averages just 1.3 turnovers in 232 career games.
