Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Fresno Falcons extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-3 win over the Idaho Steelheads in front of 4,773 fans at Qwest Arena on Friday night. All four wins in the streak have been by one goal.
Fresno scored three goals on nine shots in the first period to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
Oren Eizenman opened the scoring at 4:37, taking a shot from the left-wing circle which deflected off of an Idaho defender and past goaltender Kellen Briggs for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Mike Ramsay doubled the lead at 12:57. Ramsay sped into the Idaho zone and from the top of the right-wing circle beat Briggs with a quick wrist shot for his fourth goal of the year.
The Falcons' power-play went to work shortly after to extend the lead to three. Kenny MacAulay's shot from the blue line was turned aside by Briggs, but Matt Stefanishion gathered in the rebound on the near post and stuffed a shot past Briggs for his third of the season.
Frenso's defense was just as good in the opening 20 minutes, holding Idaho to just three shots on goal.
Idaho got on the board 14:46 into the second period. Taggart Desmet skated across the Fresno blue line, and beat Jake Moreland with a wrist shot through the legs for his seventh of the season.
But, Fresno's power play answered the goal with its second tally of the night just 36 seconds later. Jason Bonsignore's shot was stopped by Briggs, but John Morlang picked up the rebound at the top of the crease, and pushed the puck back into the net for his first goal of the season.
The Steelheads pulled back within two 2:30 into the third period. Greg Rallo's shot missed wide of the net, but caromed back in front to Mark Bombersback who beat Moreland to the near post for his 11th goal of the year.
Idaho struck again at 4:11 to make it a 4-3 game. Bombersback moved the puck to Rallo in the right-wing circle and he snapped a shot past Moreland for his eighth of the season.
Moreland made three saves in the final 25 seconds of the third period to preserve the win.
