Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today they have signed defenseman Sylvain Dufresne (DOO-frane) to a standard American Hockey League contract. Per club policy, terms of the deals weren't disclosed.
Dufresne spent the entire 2005-06 campaign with the Rochester Americans collecting two goals and seven assists for nine points with 78 penalty minutes in 61 games played. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Waterloo, Quebec has played in 97 career AHL games registering 13 points and 99 penalty minutes.
"Sylvain comes to us with the reputation of being a very solid defenseman," said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. "We are expecting Sylvain to provide a very steady presence in our defensive zone and he can also add a physical element to our blueline."
Dufresne is entering his eighth season of professional hockey. Dufresne split time playing for the Baton Rouge Kingfish (ECHL) and Flint Generals (UHL) from 1999-2003 before making his AHL debut with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2003 collecting two assists in seven games. During the 2003-04 season, Dufresne set career highs with 17 goals and 39 assists for 56 points in 76 games with Flint.
