Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â The Fresno Falcons gave-up six straight goals from the latter part of the first period until the beginning stages of the third period, turning a 2-1 lead into a 7-2 deficit, before they eventually lost to the Idaho Steelheads, 7-4, on Friday at Save Mart Center in front of 4,120.
Fresno overcame an early Jan Kopecky power play goal when Mike Sandbeck and Greg Bullock scored 1:33 apart mid-way through the first period. Sandbeck's effort was a power play tally, and Bullock's was off a rebound for his team-leading 17th of the season.
The Steelheads took the lead for good, though, after Andrei Vasilyev and Ben Keup scored at 17:03 and 18:12, respectively, giving the visitors a 3-2 edge heading to the second.
They tacked on three more during the middle frame, including two :39 seconds apart from Kopecky and Lance Galbraith with less than four minutes gone. Dylan Gyori added another at 15:42 off a blast from the left wing, opening up a 6-2 lead through 40 minutes.
The Steelheads' final goal of the night came at 3:51 of the third when Gyori batted home his second of the evening. The Falcons threatened to make things interesting with two goals about a minute apart mid-way through the final period from Kory Mullin and Bullock, but they never pulled closer than three.
Despite recording a season-high 39 shots on goal, the loss was Fresno's third in a row and drops them to 10-21-3 on the season.
The team continues the second of a five-game home stand on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. when they welcome the Texas Wildcatters to Save Mart Center for the first time. The game is a Carl's Jr. Two-for-Tuesday, with two-for-one coupons available at participating restaurants.
Tickets for the game are still available for as little as $8 and can be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Tower Records, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
