Gladiators drop second straight, 3-1 to Columbus

Troy Milam broke Columbus netminder Jason Tapp's second bid for a shout in as many games against the Gladiators but it wasn't enough for Gwinnett in a 3-1 loss at Columbus on Saturday night.

Columbus opened the scoring as Dan Tudin took a centering pass in the slot and ripped a snap shot past Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett at 4:06 of the second period. Marc-Andre Thinel added an assist on the goal.

Kenton Smith's slap shot from the point gave the Cottonmouths a 2-0 lead later in the second period. J-F Plourde added an assist on the goal at 12:46 of the middle stanza.

Troy Milam broke the shutout as he ripped a slap shot over the shoulder of Columbus netminder Jason Tapp. Brandon Dietrich and Blue Bennefield added the assists on the goal at 8:55 of the third period.

Columbus put the game away on Dan Tessier goal at 16:23 of the third. The Columbus forward picked up a rebound in the left face off circle and ripped a slapshot past Garnett. Thomas Micka added an assist on the goal.

A goaltending battle transpired in the first period as Gladiators goaltender Michael Garnett robbed the Cottonmouths on two point-blank scoring opportunities early in the first period to keep the Gladiators in the game. At the other end of the ice, Columbus netminder Jason Tapp turned aside 16 shots in the opening stanza.
