The Springfield Falcons close out their first three-in-three of the season when they welcome the Portland Pirates to the MassMutual Center at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday night, Paul Dainton made 36 saves in his 2012-2013 debut, helping Springfield earn a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at The Nest. Cam Atkinson and Tomas Kubalik each scored for the Falcons, who have taken points in five of their first six games for just the third time in the franchise's 19-year history. Springfield has a one point lead on Bridgeport for the top spot in the Northeast Division and shares the Eastern Conference lead with the Syracuse Crunch at nine points. The Falcons meet the Pirates for the first of six times this season today. Springfield owns a 78-65-15 record all-time against Portland.
Today's contest is the Falcons' "Halloween Hockey Night." Fans are encouraged to showcase their Halloween apparel as Falcons in-arena host Kevin Johnson will give away prizes to fans wearing the best costumes throughout the game. After the game, fans are invited to stick around and skate on the MassMutual Center ice. Fans must bring their own skates to participate. Single-game tickets to see the Falcons in 2012-2013 can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. through game time on Saturday home dates, and starting four hours prior to Sunday home contests. Fans can also purchase tickets by logging onto Ticketmaster.com.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
The Falcons rose from 10th to 8th in the AHL on the penalty kill last night, denying Bridgeport on six of seven power-play chances. Springfield is 34/39 (87.2%) while short handed this season. The Falcons have been out-chanced on the power play 39 to 30 in the opening six games.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
In Lewiston, Maine on Saturday night, Portland defeated the Binghamton Senators, 4-2. The Pirates lead the league with 4.83 goals scored/game but are tied for last in the AHL in goals against/game, allowing 4.33 opposition markers on average. Of Portland's six games this season, four have involved at least one team scoring six or more goals. The Pirates dropped an 8-7 decision in overtime on Tuesday night to the St. John's IceCaps. Alexandre Bolduc and Chris Conner are tied for the league lead with 10 points. Bolduc's six goals have him knotted up atop the AHL.
