Brett Sutter earned the hat trick and Justin Peters made 19 saves as the Charlotte Checkers handed the Peoria Rivermen a 6-0 loss Sunday night at Carver Arena. Following last night's 4-0 defeat, the Rivermen were handed their second straight shutout by the Checkers.
The first goal of the game didn't come until 12:04 of the second period. Zach Boychuk scored his fifth goal of the year to give the Checkers a 1-0 lead. Boychuk got behind the Peoria defense and backhanded a shot top shelf to score Charlotte's 16th power play goal of the year. Michal Jordan and Peters earned assists on the tally.
The Checkers added another goal just 2:07 later. Drayson Bowman fired a shot from the slot over the glove of Allen to score his seventh goal of the season. Jeremy Welsh and Jordan earned the assists.
With 1:23 remaining in the second frame Sutter scored his first goal of the year to make the score 3-0. From behind the net Jerome Samson fed one to Sutter who one-timed the puck past Allen.
At the 12:08 mark of the third period Sutter scored his second goal of the night to increase Charlotte's lead to four goals. Rasmus Rissanen took a shot from the point that deflected off the back of Sutter and over Allen. Justin Krueger was given the secondary assist on the play.

Charlotte outshot the Rivermen 35-19 while going 2-for-2 on the power play.
