IceCaps Blanked by Bobkov, Admirals

ST. JOHN'S, NL - Igor Bobkov stopped all 38 shots he faced as the Norfolk Admirals handed the St. John's IceCaps their second shutout loss in the last three games with a tidy 2-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Mile One Centre.

Patrick Maroon and John Mitchell scored for Norfolk (5-1-0-0), which bounced back from a 3-2 loss Saturday night that snapped their league-record 32-game win streak. Eddie Pasquale started for St. John's (4-4-0-0) and made 25 saves in picking up his fourth loss of the season. Zach Redmond led all IceCaps skaters with five shots on goal and earned the game's third star for his team, which was also shut out Wednesday night on home ice in a 4-0 loss to the Portland Pirates.

After a scoreless first period, Norfolk got on the board at 11:33 of the second. Ryan Parent's point shot ricocheted off Devante Smith-Pelly in front of the net and Patrick Maroon found the loose puck in the crease, shoveling in his fourth of the season to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead.

The IceCaps fell victim to another late period goal when John Mitchell gave the Admirals a two-goal lead with 10 seconds left in the middle frame. After Zach Redmond rang a shot off the post at the tail end of a St. John's power play, Troy Bodie scooped up the puck and fed Mitchell just as the Norfolk forward stepped back on the ice from his minor penalty. Mitchell burst in alone and snapped a wrist shot that beat Pasquale low on the blocker side, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage heading into the third period.

"Redmond hits the post and they come back and get a goal there," coach Keith McCambridge said. "That's a 1-1 game to 2-0 right there."

St. John's went 0-for-6 on the power play while killing off both Norfolk man advantages.

The IceCaps wrap up their six-game home stand with a 3-3-0-0 record, splitting all three series at Mile One. The club takes to the road for five games beginning next Friday when they visit the Pirates in Portland. The next home action for St. John's takes place on Friday, Nov. 16 when the team hosts the Albany Devils.
