IN JUST A FEW HOURS...
The Springfield Falcons attempt to close out the weekend with a victory when they meet up again with the Norfolk Admirals at 7:15 p.m. at the Norfolk Scope. On Friday night, Cam Atkinson rallied the Falcons with a pair of special-teams goals in the second period, scoring on the power play and in a short-handed situation to lead Springfield to a 3-2 win over Norfolk. Curtis McElhinney made a season-high 36 saves in net to capture his league-leading ninth victory of the season. Sean Collins also registered his first goal of the 2012-2013 campaign in the win. Springfield stands alone in first place in the Eastern Conference with 20 points following last night's action.
Fans can listen to "Voice of the Falcons" Mike Kelly call tonight's game on WHYN NewsTalk 560 AM, on WHYN.com, and through the iHeartRadio App, with coverage beginning at 7:00 p.m.
After battling the Admirals tonight, Springfield concludes its away stretch in Portland on Friday, Nov. 23 when it meets the Pirates.
The Falcons return home for "Movember Night presented by Baystate Health" on Saturday, Nov. 24 against the Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans into the building that night will receive mustaches as part of an effort to generate awareness of prostate cancer and other male illnesses.
Single-game tickets to see the Falcons in 2012-2013 can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. through game time on Saturday home dates, and starting four hours prior to Sunday home contests. Fans can also purchase tickets by logging onto Ticketmaster.com. For information about discounted group packages to Falcons home games, call (413) 739-GOAL (4625).
STEPPING UP
In garnering his first multi-goal game of the season last night, Cam Atkinson jumped into a tie with Nick Drazenovic for the team lead with six tallies and leaped into first place among Falcon skaters with 14 points. Nearly half of Atkinson's 2012-2013 production has come against the Admirals. He accumulated four assists - tied for the most by any AHL skater this season in one game - last Sunday and added the two-goal outing last night for six points in two battles with Norfolk.
PENALTY KILL COMES UP CLUTCH
In addition to registering the club's second short-handed goal of the season, Springfield fought off eight of nine Norfolk power plays on Friday night. The Falcons are fourth in the league on the penalty kill at 89.6% (69/77).
RESPONDING TO ADVERSITY
The Falcons have not lost back-to-back games this season, as they improved to 4-0-0-0 last night following a defeat. Springfield faced a deficit after the opening 20 minutes for the first time all season on Friday, but responded with a two-point effort.
