Falcons Extend Qualifying Offers to Seven Players

July 1, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. – Meeting the ECHL's July 1 deadline, the Fresno Falcons have extended qualifying contract offers to Scott Borders, Michael Kiesman, Felipe Larrañaga, Jim Lorentz, Dominic Periard, Shaun Sutter and Jason Weaver. Because none of the above seven players are league-classified veterans, the qualifying offers ensure that the team retains their ECHL playing rights through the end of the 2004-05 season.

Weaver recently completed his second year as captain and third overall with the club and is joined by Borders as the only players either already signed or on the qualified protected list that remain from the Falcons' 2001-02 Taylor Cup Championship (WCHL) team.

Kiesman put up career highs in goals, assists and points in his first Falcons campaign in 2002-03, while Periard made an impact as a rugged defenseman before injuries knocked him out of the season's final 43 games. Larrañaga, who will remain a rookie in 2004-05, played seven games with the Falcons last year after completing his college career at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

Neither Lorentz nor Sutter suited up for the Falcons last season but had their rights acquired by the team in separate trades that were completed earlier in the off-season.

The Falcons currently have four players – Jordan Landry, Brian Passmore, Wes Rypien and Kevin Truelson – under contract for the 2004-05 season, which begins on Oct. 22 at Save Mart Center against the Las Vegas Wranglers. Full season ticket packages and Flex Packs are already on sale beginning as low as $42. For complete ticket information, please visit the Falcons website at www.fresnofalcons.com/tickets.html or call the Falcons front office at (559) 485-PUCK (7825).
