San Diego Gulls News Release
San Diego, CA- The San Diego Gulls and defenseman Mike Garrow have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season, head coach Martin St. Amour announced on Thursday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Garrow, who will turn 29 in August, re-joins the Gulls for his third season. Last season he notched 41 points (13g, 28a) and 69 penalty minutes in 69 games and led all San Diego defensemen in goals, assists, points and power-play goals. He had a plus/minus rating of +16, second only to fellow defenseman Samy Nasreddine's +17. Garrow also played two games with the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks last season, registering four penalty minutes.
During his two-year stint with the Gulls (which included one season in the West Coast Hockey League), Garrow has recorded 74 points (23g, 51a) and 142 penalty minutes in 117 games. He led all San Diego defensemen with 33 points in 2002-03, which was seventh among WCHL blue-liners.
"I'm excited to play for both Martin and Jamie Black this year and look forward to demonstrating leadership on and off the ice," Garrow said. "Martin is an honest, hardworking guy that is passionate about the game and the Gulls organization. Jamie's dedication and experience will be a significant factor in our team's success."
The 6-foot-1-inch, 210-pound native of Kenora, Ontario began his professional career in 2000-01 when he spent time with both the AHL's Syracuse Crunch and East Coast Hockey League's Dayton Bombers. In his first full season with the WCHL's Colorado Gold Kings in 2001-02, Garrow was selected as the WCHL Rookie of the Year and named to the WCHL All-Rookie Team. He's also played a handful of games with the AHL's Utah Grizzlies during his career. Before turning pro, Garrow spent three years at the University of Alberta.
With Garrow's signing, the Gulls' roster now officially has six players. Trevor Koenig, David Neale, Sylvain Deschatelets, Chris Gobert and Nasreddine were all previous announced as having re-signed.
