Falcons Beat Devils 5-2

The Springfield Falcons beat the Lowell Devils 5-2 on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead when Jean-Francois Jacques scored a shorthanded goal at 2:33 of the first period. Springfield expanded their advantage to 2-0 when Rob Schremp scored his sixth goal of the year at 15:27 of the first period. Center Ben Simon collected a pair of first period assists.

The game's first altercation occurred in the first period as Springfield's Troy Bodie and Lowell's Mark Fraser dropped the gloves midway through the opening frame.

The Falcons expanded their lead to 3-0 just 1:36 into the second period when Simon scored his fifth goal of the year, his third point of the hockey game. Springfield took a 4-0 lead just 1:05 after Simon's goal when Colin McDonald netted his sixth marker of the season. Lowell cut their deficit to 4-1 when Petr Vrana tallied his fifth goal of the year at 8:22 of the middle frame.

Lowell's Olli Malmivaara cut the Devils deficit to 4-2, but Mathieu Roy added an empty net marker to cap off the victory for Springfield.
