Henrich Nets Four Points as Admirals Down Penguins

NORFOLK - Adam Henrich netted a goal and three assists to lead the Norfolk Admirals (10-13-1-2) past the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (12-12-0-0) 5-3 on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

The Admirals jumped out in front at 6:23 of the opening period. Henrich threaded a no-look pass from the right faceoff circle toward the crease. Milley accepted the pass on his backhand before flipping the puck past Penguins goaltender John Curry with a forehand shot.

Wilkes-Barre knotted the score at 1-1 with just 1:12 remaining in the opening frame. Ryan Stone deflected a point shot past Norfolk netminder Karri Ramo.

Henrich set up Norfolk's second goal 6:34 into the second stanza. He attempted a wraparound from behind the net to the left of Curry. The puck caromed off the skate of Admirals rookie Rob Klinkhammer and into the net for a 2-1 Norfolk lead.

But the Penguins charged back with another late-period goal. Jonathan Filewich intercepted a pass from Ramo and sent it to Jeff Taffe. Taffe's shot was blocked, but Ryan Stone put the puck past Ramo at 19:23.

It took Norfolk just 61 seconds to respond with another go-ahead tally. While skating on a power play, Dan Jancevski sent a shot from the blueline that hit off the end boards behind the net. The puck ricocheted out to Justin Keller at the top of the right circle, and Keller fired it into the cage just 24 seconds into the final frame.

Norfolk's lead grew to 4-2 eight minutes later. Jay Leach sent a point shot that Curry stopped. The rebound came out to Henrich, who swept the puck just inside the right post as he fell to the ice at 8:23 of the third period.

Dennis Bonvie drew the Penguins back to within a goal of Norfolk four minutes later. Bonvie picked up a loose puck and fired it home at 12:25 just after a Connor James shot had hit both posts.

However, Wilkes-Barre did not find the equalizer. Karl Stewart cemented the Admirals victory with an empty net goal with one-tenth of a second left in the game.

Norfolk was 1-6 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 0-3.

The Admirals will host the Hershey Bears next Friday night and the Philadelphia Phantoms next Saturday night at Scope.
