32 Reading alumni have reached NHL

Reading, PA - Former Reading Royals forward Tyrell Goulbourne made his NHL debut for the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday against the St. Louis Blues and became the first former Royals standout to play for the Flyers since the team became affiliated with Philadelphia in 2014. Thirty-two former Royals have made the NHL, most recently Stanislav Galiev in Apr. 2015.

In 34 games this season with Lehigh Valley, Goulbourne has six goals, 11 points and 38 penalty minutes. The Flyers recalled the 23-year-old from Lehigh Valley on Wed., Jan. 3.

Goulbourne skated in 36 games with Reading last season, scoring eight goals and 19 points. He made his Reading debut on Nov. 18, 2016 against Manchester. He recorded four multi-point games and five fighting majors. Four of his fights thrilled the home crowd at Santander Arena. Goulbourne is a native of Edmonton, AB.

In 131 AHL games, Goulbourne registered 14 goals, 29 points and 137 PIM.

A third-round selection by Philadelphia in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Goulbourne played for the Kelowna Rockets (WHL) for four full seasons, plus parts of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 campaigns. Goulbourne accrued 60 goals, 125 points and 461 PIM in 275 major junior games and won the 2015 WHL Championship with Kelowna. He joined the professional ranks in 2015-16 with Lehigh Valley.

The Royals became Philadelphia's ECHL affiliate at the start of the 2014-15 season. Notable former Royals to make the NHL include G Jonathan Quick, G Philipp Grubauer, D Derek Engelland and G James Reimer.

With Goulbourne's debut, 636 former ECHL players have played in the NHL. Thirteen have made their debuts this season.

The Royals are at home on Sat., Jan. 6 at 7:00 p.m. against Worcester. Reading plays the Railers twice to finish the weekend. Saturday's game is Mental Health Night, presented by the Berks County Office Of Mental Health And Developmental Disabilities.
