Extreme wide receiver Walton nets UIF weekly honor

Bloomington wide receiver James Walton has been selected as the Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Extreme's 59-38 victory over Wichita on Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum, it was announced Thursday by United Indoor Football League officials.

The 6-foot-3 Walton caught a team-high nine passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns as the Extreme won its first game in three outings. Bloomington meets the Colorado Ice (0-2) at 7:05 p.m. Friday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Walton leads the UIF in scoring with 48 points on eight touchdown receptions. The Truman State product also leads the league in receiving yards per catch (15.3), yards per game (107.7) and touchdown receptions. Walton has 21 receptions for 323 yards in three games.

He is the second Extreme player to gain UIF weekly honors this season. Kicker Peter Christofilakos earned the Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance during the second week of the campaign.

Extreme transactions

Extreme coach Kenton Carr also announced the signings Thursday of defensive backs Dustin Lopez and Lamont LaGrone. Both are 5-foot-10 and weigh 190 pounds.

Lopez, a product of the University of Memphis, played for the Rock River Raptors last season in the UIF. LaGrone is a rookie and played in college at Illinois State. The pair joins center Luke Wickman and running back Dale Jennings as new signees this week.

Players placed on waivers were quarterback Jim DuPage, defensive lineman Eric Johnson and wide receivers Glenn Johnson and Ken Duffy.

Extreme key chains

The first 3,000 fans though the gates at Friday's game will receive Extreme key chains, compliments of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.
