RiverCity Rage News Release

St. Charles, MO - The United Indoor Football League has named Rage linebacker, Joe Bevis, its "Defensive Player of the Week" for his efforts this past weekend. This is the third straight week that a player from the RiverCity Rage has been awarded 'Player of the Week' honors. The Rage (3-0) are coming off their third straight win to start the season as they doubled up the Omaha Beef 36-18 at the Family Arena on Saturday.

One of the key reasons for the team's success last week was the play of Bevis. The University of Illinois alum recorded a UIF season-high 14 tackles, including one for a loss and a quarterback hurry. The leading tackler on the Rage with 24, Bevis is the first to give the credit to his teammates.

"If it wasn't for the guys on the defensive line, there is no way I have 14 tackles," Bevis said. "They are keeping the linemen away from me so I can roam free to make those plays. Also the guys in the defensive backfield are covering the receivers so well the quarterback can't get rid of the ball when he wants."

"Joe has great instincts for defense," said Rage head coach Ken Stills. "He's a Big Ten Conference guy. He's been through the battles at the top levels. Bevis is always one of the first guys to get the game film. He is constantly watching film and trying to find weaknesses he can exploit. It's no surprise to me that he is playing at this high of a level. Being 3-0 gets your team attention. To have three guys in a row named player of the week means that the whole league is seeing what I'm seeing. We have talented players here that are making the plays that it takes to win in this game. I hope that, and expect for, this to continue for the rest of this season."

Rage receiver, Hurtis Chinn, was named "Special Teams Player of the Week" after Week 1 of the UIF season. He recorded 178 all-purpose yards in RiverCity's 42-35 victory over the Colorado Ice on March 9th. Following the games of Week 2, Rage defensive end, Terrell Washington, was honored as "Defensive Player of the Week" as he totaled 4.5 tackles and blocked two field goals. The second proved to be the game-winner as it went for a safety with 1:02 left in the game, giving the Rage a 26-25 win in Wichita over the Wild.

The RiverCity Rage have this week off before returning to action on Saturday, April 5th in Omaha for a return game against the Beef. RiverCity returns home to take on the Bloomington Extreme on Saturday, April 12th at the Family Arena in St. Charles. Great seats are available and prices start at just $5. For ticketing information contact the Rage ticket office at (636) 896-4285.
