RiverCity Travels To Bloomington

ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI: The RiverCity Rage Professional Indoor Football Team is hard at work on the practice field this week in preparation for a big road contest against the Bloomington Extreme on Saturday, June 13th at 7:05 p.m. The Rage improved to 8-3 on the season with a 43-20 victory over the Muskegon Thunder. The 8-4 Extreme is riding a three-game winning streak after topping the Wichita Wild 38-34 on home last Saturday.

The Rage defeated the Extreme on May 9th at the Family Arena 31-24 in their only meeting this season. In their previous meeting, Randy Bell scored his second of two touchdowns with a little over four minutes left in the game to secure the victory. Wide receiver Maurice Avery caught six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. The Rage defense held the Extreme to just 84 total yards of offense and forced two interceptions to secure the win.

The Rage has secured a spot in the playoffs and is looking to regain first place in the Atlantic Division from the Maryland Maniacs. The Maniacs host the Muskegon Thunder on Saturday, June 13th.

The Rage continues to be ranked among the team leaders in most key categories this season. Offensively the Rage are averaging 46.4 points per game (sixth), 190.5 yards per game passing (fourth), 19.8 yards per kickoff return (first), and 236 yards of total offense (eighth). Defensively the Rage possess one of the most potent units in the league, allowing the third fewest points (32.7 per game), yards passing (124.4 per game), and total yards allowed per contest (177).

The wide receiver trio of Hurtis Chinn, Maurice Avery, and Luke McArdle has been outstanding this season and one of the best combinations in the entire IFL. They have combined for 151 catches for 1,848 yards and 37 all-purpose touchdowns. Running back and return man Randy Bell has chipped in an impressive 15 touchdowns and 862 total yards (receiving, rushing, and returns).

Bloomington is also ranked high in a number of key league categories on both sides of the ball. Offensively the Extreme is averaging 45.3 points per game (seventh) and 197 yards per game overall. Defensively the Extreme are really on a roll, holding opponents to 30.8 points per game (second), 136.2 yards passing per game (fifth), 184.9 yards per contest (fourth), and is third best in the league with a +12 turnover margin.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT John Dutton, Quarterback: The game against the Extreme marks the Rage debut of Dutton, who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 6th round in the 1998 NFL Draft but the Arena Football League is where he made his name. He has been a standout quarterback in the AFL since 2000, playing for the San Jose SaberCats from 2000-02 and the Colorado Crush from 2003-08. As a starter, he led his respective teams to wins in Arena Bowl's XVI and XIX, and was featured on the cover of the EA Sports Arena Football League video game.

Dutton had been a starter for seven of his nine seasons in the Arena Football League. His career numbers are startling; completing 2419 of 3872 passes (62.5%) for 28,206 yards. He threw 564 touchdown passes to just 101 interceptions for a staggering 110.04 quarterback rating. For Colorado, Dutton had four straight years with over 84 touchdown passes, and twice topped the 90 touchdown mark in a season (96 in 2006 and 94 in 2008).

QUICK HITS Next week, the Rage will play their final regular season home game against El Paso on Saturday, June 20th at 7:30 p.m. It will be the first ever meeting between the two organizations. The Rage will wrap up their regular season schedule with their second trip to Wichita on Saturday, June 27th before taking two weeks off to prepare for the IFL playoffs.
