Bloomington Extreme News Release
BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - The Bloomington Extreme Indoor Football Team is pleased to announce the signings of Defensive Back, Calvin Bini and Defensive Lineman, Marvin Campbell for the 2011 season.
Calvin Bini, 5'11" 185 lbs., Defensive Back from Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, KY, has signed a contract to play for the Extreme in 2011. After playing at two different schools (University of Colorado and Georgetown College) Bini joined Cambellsville in 2008 as a redshirt transfer. During the 2010 season, Bini became the Tigers' all-time punt returner in just two seasons after setting the single-season punt return yards in 2009. Bini recorded 47 tackles, two interceptions, and nine pass breakups as a senior at Campbellsville. During his time at CU, the Radcliff, KY native was named a NCCAA All-American in 2009, a two-time All-Mid-South Conference East Division defensive back and was named the All-MSC kick returner in 2009. Bini also received the All-MSC "Champion of Character" award in 2009 and was one of 55 nominees considered for the 2010 Allstate America Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.
Marvin Campbell, 6'3" 330 lbs., Defensive Lineman from Harper College, rejoins the Extreme in 2011 for his third season with the organization. During his first stint with the Extreme in 2008, Campbell was named as a member of the UIF East All-Star Team following a season in which he compiled 28 tackles, 2 ½ sacks, and a blocked kick in 11 games. Campbell spent the 2009 season as a member of the Peoria Pirates in the AF2 prior to rejoining the Extreme in 2010, where he recorded 10 tackles (8 tackles for loss) and 3 sacks in only 5 games. The Gary, IN native now resides in Bloomington with his wife and 3 children.
"Calvin is a tremendous athlete who plays the ball exceptionally well from the cornerback position and has great vision as a kick returner," states Head Coach Mike Murray. "Big Marv has developed into a great run stopper over the past couple of years and we look forward to seeing his progression as a player. We're excited to have both of these young men as part of our organization and look for them to be great contributors to our defensive unit and the community during the 2011 season."
With these two signings, the Extreme roster now stands at 36 players announced as part of the 2011 training camp roster. IFL training camp rosters consist of 45 players.
The Bloomington Extreme will open training camp Sunday, February 13, 2011 and kick off the season two weeks later, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Richmond Revolution with a 3:05 pm start time.
