July 13, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters came back down 2-0 to force extras but gave up a big inning to the Battle Creek Battle Jacks, losing game two 5-2 in 10 innings.

The Pit Spitters are now 2-4 in extra inning games this season, with two of those losses coming at home to Battle Creek. Their two wins came at Battle Creek on the road.

The Battle Jacks were held at bay for most of the game, but they finally broke through with two runs in the sixth. Only one run was charged as an earned run.

Aren Gustafson departed after the sixth inning, allowing seven hits and one walk. He struck out a season-high seven batters in the no decision. Goose's next appearance will be in Wisconsin Rapids at the All-Star Game.

Jakob Marsee singled home the first Pit Spitter run in the bottom of the inning. He was the only Pit Spitter with multiple hits and multiple RBIs as he tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI groundout.

Ryan Insco pitched three scoreless innings out of the bullpen but hit trouble in extras. He gave up a two-run triple to Billy Hancock, who has killed the Pit Spitters in clutch situations this season. He delivered the winning hit in extra innings on July 6. He sent the game on June 27 to extra innings with a two-out hit. And he delivered the winning hit tonight.

The Pit Spitters had the go-ahead runner on third with one out in the eighth. They had the winning run at second with nobody out in the ninth. They had the tying run up to bat in the 10th. They failed to score on all the occasions.

Up Next

The Pit Spitters will play four road games before the All-Star Break against Kalamazoo and Rockford. Game one on Thursday with the Growlers will be at 6:35 ET.
